O Captain! dear Father!
Ben McGuckin, 91, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on April 7, 2022.
He was born January 4, 1931, in New York City, a son of the late Benjamin and Gertrude McGuckin . He spent many years on his beloved family farm along the Chester River on Kent Island, Md and in Palm Beach, FL.
After graduating from Grinnell College, Ben joined the US Navy where he would rise to the rank of Captain. He was called to active duty in 1962 for ten months during the Berlin Crisis where he proudly served his country.
As a lifelong athlete, Ben enjoyed swimming, tennis, golf and of course fishing, shrimping and hunting in his adopted Lowcountry.
He was a member of Grace Church and member and former Commodore (1985) of the Carolina Yacht Club. He spent 40 years with New York Life but his greatest pride and joy was his family .
Ben was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy S. McGuckin, his eldest daughter, Lisa McGuckin White and a brother, Lawrence McGuckin. He is survived by his daughters, Laura McGuckin Steinhauer and Lynn Gates as well as a son, Benjamin F. McGuckin III (Susan), his grandchildren: Caroline (John), Whitney (Brian), Chad (Krissy), Jacqueline, Benjamin, Whitman and great grandchildren, Johnny, Hudson, Jaylyn, Heidi, Seth and Oakley. He is also survived by his sister, Margery Macgregor of Michigan, a sister-in-law Ernestine Gravely, (Randy), a brother-in-law, Marion Smith (Claudia), a sister-in-law, Dottie McGuckin and many nieces and nephews .

His Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Grace Church Cathedral, 98 Wentworth St. Burial will be at Old St Andrew’s Parish Churchyard following the service.
