Beatrice Stroman McKay, 102, of Charleston, the widow of Lawrence Edward McKay, Sr., died Thursday, November 14, 2013, at her residence. The relatives and friends of Bea McKay are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 18, 2013, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway. A private family burial will be held at St. Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Bea was born June 16, 1911, in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late William Frederick and Mattie Rupple Stroman. She was a graduate of Orangeburg High School and St. Francis Xavier School of Nursing. She was a private-duty nurse for over 60 years and was the oldest living graduate of her nursing school. Bea was an active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and the Avondale Civic Association. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her sons, Lawrence Edward McKay, Jr. and Frederick Stroman McKay, Sr. Bea is survived by her six grandchildren: Lanny McKay (Lisa), Fred McKay, Jr. (Claudia), Tricy McKay Cushner (Michael), Beth McKay Fisher (John); Chappy McKay (Sarah) and Bitsy McKay Moores (Duane); 14 great-grandchildren: Rylee, Aidan, Cameron, Wade, Caroline, Carson, Erin, Madison, Ellis, Maggie, Trevor, Clayton, Laura, and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law: Fay C. McKay and Helena Blanchard McKay Vivona (Dominic); her brother-in-law, William L. McKay (Ann Marie) and her sister-in-law, Carolyn McKay Sweeten.
