Barbara Russell Lindsay, 88, wife of Valentine J. Lindsay, entered into eternal rest on the morning of July 12, 2018. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine J. Lindsay are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Monday evening, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM.
Barbara aka 'Bobbi' to her friends, 'Mimi' or 'Fluffies' to her grandchildren, was born in Charleston, South Carolina to Hugh Thomas Russell and Irma Stella Gerard on October 8, 1929. She grew up on Ashe Street in downtown Charleston and attended Mitchell Elementary School. Bobbi graduated from Murray Vocational School in 1949. She worked at Simmons Motor Company where she met the love of her life, Valentine J. Lindsay, when he came in to buy a car. She always said she fell in love with the back of his head and his Air Force uniform. They were married at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on July 23, 1955 and were married for just 2 weeks shy of 63 years.
Bobbi was an artist who painted beautiful paintings and ceramics for her family and friends, and was an expert seamstress. She was very active in the lives of her five grandchildren and was always taking them on some new adventure. She loved camping with her family and doing projects around her home.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Valentine J. Lindsay; her daughters, Eileen B. Heider (Kenneth) and Valerie L. Tyler; five beloved grandchildren, Benjamin L. Tyler, Brian J. Tyler, Alexander R. Tyler, Kendall E. Heider and Kyle E. Heider, and her puppy, Shandy. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Audrey R. Galloway and her brother, Walter Nelson Russell.
