It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Gigis Latto, who left this world peacefully on April 25, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on May 15, 1934, in Fernandina Beach, Florida, she was the daughter of Paul George and Harriet Lambrianos Gigis. Her family later moved to Charleston, South Carolina. Barbara graduated from Rivers High School, where her athleticism earned her the title of "Most Athletic."
A devoted member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity. Barbara served as a dedicated member of the choir and of the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Her steadfast faith laid the foundation for her role as a proud and loving wife, mother, and yiayia (grandmother). Barbara loved to feed others and was especially famous for her koulourakia Greek cookies. You could find Barbara every Tuesday with her card group playing cards with her close friends.
Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Elias S. (Louie) Latto. She is survived by her three loving children, Sam E. Latto, Effie L. Meletis (Tom), and Elizabeth L. Wade (Mike). She was a proud yiayia of six grandchildren: Father Ermaios (Peter) Meletis, a monk at Mt. Athos Greece, Stephanie M. Proffitt (John), Alexis W. Krebreck (Kace), Michael V. Wade (Caroline), Elias A. Latto, and Leah E. Wade. Additionally, she was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Anastasia and Thomas Proffitt, Carter and Alexander Krebreck, and Sophia Wade.
In addition to her husband and parents, Barbara was predeceased by four sisters and one brother: Lula Latto, Mary Moskos, Katherine Theos, George Gigis, and Theodora Grisette. In recent years, the family was grateful for the compassionate care and love provided by Sabrina Morrison, and we would also like to thank the Family Hospice team for their exceptional care.
The family will greet friends 11:00 AM, Wednesday April 29, 2026 at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, with the Trisagion at 11:30 AM. Her Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 PM, with the interment to follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the building fund at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity at 30 Race Street. Barbara's spirit, dedication to her family, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed yet forever cherished by all who knew her.
Arrangements by JAMES A. McALISTER FUNERAL HOME. (843)766-1365.
