Barbara June Lannan of Charleston, SC passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019. The relatives and friends of Ms. Barbara J. Lannan are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 8, 2019, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be Private.
Barbara was born on August 12, 1929, the daughter of Mildred Dixon Lannan and Joseph A. Lannan. She attended Catholic schools in California, New Jersey, and Charleston and was a graduate of John W. Hallahan Catholic girls high school and Pierce’s Business College in Philadelphia, PA.
Barbara worked as an employee relations specialist at the Charleston Navy Shipyard for 41 years during which time she was employee of the year in 1991. After retiring from federal employment, Barbara began volunteer service in several capacities. She worked at Roper St. Francis Hospital for over 25 years where she was nominated for the Governor’s Legacy Volunteer Award for 15 years of service and recently the recipient of the Health Care Heroes Award. Barbara was also involved with the Historic Charleston Foundation and Preservation Society where she was a longtime docent. Barbara was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, a member of the Notre Dame Club of Charleston and a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and their Perpetual Adoration Society in West Ashley.
In her leisure time Barbara enjoyed traveling, visiting with family, going to the beach, taking a boat ride, attending Charleston Symphony Orchestra performances, and theatre.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Michael F. Lannan and Timothy G. Lannan and her sister-in-law, Joan R. Lannan. She is survived by nephews, Joseph Lannan and Matthew Lannan (Sarah) of Charleston, SC; niece, Moira Lannan Long of Chatham, MA and many great-nieces and nephews.
