Armine Nelson Richardson

June 13, 1924 — March 30, 2019

Armine Nelson Richardson, 94, of Charleston, SC, widow of the late James Albert Richardson, entered into eternal rest March 30, 2019. The relatives and friends of Armine Nelson Richardson are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Friday, April 5, 2019 at Nativity Catholic Church, 1061 Folly Road, James Island. Rev. S. Thomas Kingsley will celebrate the Mass. The family will receive friends between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM Thursday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 PM.

Armine was born June 13, 1924 in Alameda, California, daughter of the late Armine Wilkins and Nelson Kingsland. She grew up in Duck Hill, Mississippi, where she was raised by her Aunt May Wilkins. Armine received her B.S. in Chemistry, with a minor in Mathematics, from Mississippi State College for Women, receiving her Magna Cum Laude at the age of nineteen. She was a long-time member of the DAR, having been a member for over 50 years. During that time she served in many capacities, including Chapter Regent, State Regent, National Chaplain, and Vice-President General. She also served on the board of the Tamassee DAR School. Armine held memberships in numerous Lineage Society groups and also served on the Old Exchange Building Commission. A devout Roman Catholic, she was a member of the Church of the Nativity, serving also as a Eucharistic Minister to the hospitals.

Armine is survived by her four daughters: Rosemary (Nick) Hunt, Diane Richardson, Carolyn Egan (Jim), and Sylvia Richardson; three grandchildren: Chris Egan, David Egan, and Georgia Postemski; and two great-grandchildren: Warren and Anderson Egan. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Raper.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made either to Tamassee DAR School, PO Box 8, Tamassee, SC 29686, or to the Charleston County Disabilities Board, PO Box 33729, Charleston, SC 29417.
