Anthony Joseph Matson, Jr. left this world on September 4, 2020, at the age of 56, to join his parents in the eternal kingdom of our Savior Jesus Christ. After an extended battle with lung cancer, Joey peacefully passed in his own bed at his sister’s house, which he had worked so hard to return to after so many bouts in the hospital. He was surrounded by his beloved sister, a faithful aunt, and a loving cousin, who gave him the security to let go in such a peaceful setting. Joey was born in Charleston, South Carolina on April 10, 1964 to the late Anthony Joseph (Snooney) Matson and Margaret Thrower Matson. He is survived by his sister, Teresa Matson Porcher (Edward C. Porcher), two nieces Katie Porcher Crapps (Manning) and Ashley Porcher Hunt (Rah-Lee), and a nephew Carson Bonneau Porcher. Joey’s pride and joy came from his nieces’ children Ellison, Luke, and Lee. Joey was a fun-loving free spirit of the Folly Beach Crew, who enjoyed the simpler aspects of life. Through a horrible disease, Joey reevaluated the priorities in his life, spent quality time with his loving sister, and renewed his faith in Jesus Christ. We love and miss you Joey, but look forward to seeing you on the other side.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Funeral for Joey at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 11, 2020 at St. Lawrence Cemetery, 60 Huguenin Avenue, Charleston. As per social distancing guidelines, all guests will kindly wear a mask.
