Anthony Wilson Matson

Mr. Anthony Joseph Matson of Charleston died in his residence on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the age of 81. He was born on March 1, 1932 and lived in his beloved City of Charleston for his entire life. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Thrower Matson; a brother Walter Edward Matson of Erving, Texas; children Antony Joseph Matson, Jr. and Teresa Matson Porcher; a son-in-law Edward C. Porcher; grandchildren Katie Porcher Crapps (Manning), Ashley T. Porcher, and Carson B. Porcher; and a great granddaughter Ellison T. Crapps. Anthony retired from the U. S. Postal Service as a Rural Carrier and retired from the SC Army National Guard. He was a member of the Washington Light Infantry, a past president of the Civitan Club of James Island, and a charter member of the Church of the Nativity on James Island. He was affectionately known as "Snooney" to his friends and relatives, whom he valued as more precious than anything else in this world. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Joseph Matson are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM WEDNESDAY, March 13, 2013, at Nativity Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be private. The family will receive friends between 6:00-8:00 PM MONDAY evening, March 11, 2013, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Nativity, Building Fund 1061 Folly Rd. Charleston, SC 29412 or National Kidney Foundation of SC 5300 Rivers Ave. #2 Charleston, SC 29406.
