Ann Marie Barone, "Anna", 85, recently of Charleston, SC, passed away on June 16, 2021. She was the daughter of Bartolo Barone and Gertrude Granata.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 19, 2021, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 95 Hasell St, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 24, 2021, at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Ann was born in Poughkeepsie, NY and spent the first 76 years of her life in Dutchess County, NY.
In 2012, Ann relocated to Charleston, SC to be closer to her nieces.
Ann graduated from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics. She later matriculated at SUNY New Paltz doing graduate work in education. She taught in elementary school, primarily third grade for 29 years. The first 5 years were at St. Mary's School in Poughkeepsie and the remainder in the Pleasant Valley Schools of the Arlington Central School District.
She served on the Board of the New York State Humane Society as Treasurer in the 1980s. She also served as the Treasurer of the Winley Foundation from 1980 until present.
Ann's passions were love of children and animals. She traveled extensively learning a great deal and enjoying those experiences.
Ann was predeceased by her parents and her only brother, Bartolo M. Barone, MD. She is survived by three nieces, Flora Barone (Randy Richmond), Caroline Schultz (Mark Schultz), and Elizabeth Luzuriaga; three grandnieces, Isabelle Luzuriaga, Eliza Schultz, and Dana Schultz; two grandnephews, Andrew Schultz and Matt Schultz and several cousins. Ann meant so much to so many and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
