Ann Marie "Dee" Beckmann Shacker, 74, wife of William J. Shacker of Pine Ridge, S.C. peacefully entered into eternal rest on, Friday, March 11, 2016. The relatives and friends of William J. and Ann Marie Beckmann Shacker are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial 12:00 PM Monday, March 21, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wallenberg Blvd. in Charleston. The Rite of Committal will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, with a Reception following the Mass in the Parish Life Center. Online condolences may be offered at www.CharlestonFunerals.net. Mrs. Shacker was born at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, SC, daughter of Neola Rentiers Beckmann and Hampton M. Beckmann on January 6, 1942. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church on Anson and George Sts, attending school there through 4th grade, completing her elementary school education at the Cathedral Catholic School. She graduated from Bishop England High School, Class of 1959 and was a member of the basketball team. Throughout high school and her early working years, she loved to travel, dance and go to the beach with her friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill, a wonderful care giver throughout her long illness. They were married in March 1978. They shared a warm, caring son, Jeff Shacker (Laurie) and two beautiful granddaughters, Madeline (Maddie) and Kristen and all shared a special love for Mr. Bear . Dee had one sister, Ellen Beckmann, LTC USA of Charleston, and four "sister-cousins" , Catherine Martin, Janet Poole, Beth Jones of Charleston and Myriam Rhodes of Knoxville, TN. Mrs. Shacker worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for J.C. Porter Accounting and Tax Office and several other businesses before her last job in Charleston at the Charleston Naval Base where she met and worked for Bill. Over the years, Dee enjoyed traveling, bowling and reading. She loved her "soaps" and no calls were taken or made between 12:30 and 2 pm. Before moving to Columbia in 1979, Dee was a member of the Greater Charleston Women's Bowling Association, serving on its Board for several years. Dee was diagnosed with COPD in September 1995 and survived a breast cancer diagnosis in 1997. Over the last few years, she enjoyed the neighborhood oyster roasts that she and Bill hosted at their home. She also enjoyed the Thursday evenings out with Bill, Lauris and Marion Jeffcoat, Laurie's parents. She loved the shrimp and grits Thursday night Special at Carolina Wings Bar and Grill. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Major Capitol Improvement Fund, St. Joseph Church, 1695 Wallenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407, the Blessed Sacrament Building Fund, 5 St. Teresa Dr., Charleston, SC 29407, or a charity of your choice.
