“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us everyday. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, missed and very dear to those who loved them the most” by Alex MacLean
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Son, Brother and Father, Michael Andrew Gibson, known as Andy Gibson throughout his life. Andy was raised in Charleston, SC, in the city of Moncks Corner and he left us Saturday, September 9, 2023.
Andy was born May 30, 1974, in Biloxi, MS to Sandy and Floyd Gibson. At age 4, Andy was raised by Floyd Gibson and his wife of 16 years, Terry Blaton Holifield of Goose Creek, SC.. Andy was a sweet child, known for his love of mechanics, music and all things boys, bikes, getting dirty and often wounded. He managed to come home with scrapes and bruises from his adventures building tree houses, taking apart any and everything he could attach a screwdriver to, and riding his bike with his lifelong friends. Andy is the oldest of three children between Floyd and Terry. He has two sisters, Laine Kuck, known as “Little Terry” Gibson or Elaine Gibson, and Melissa Finch, known as Missy when they were younger. Andy married only once to his love Melissa Renee Rentz, of West Ashley in Charleston SC, the mother of his only child, Nathan Lee Gibson, born July 2015. Nathan and Melissa have constantly been a beacon of joy in Andy's life.
Andy Gibson’s life at a young age was marked with annual Gibson Family Reunions and yearly ski trips to their families origin of Marlinton and Snowshoe Mountain, West Virginia. He loved to be outdoors and his favorite hobbies as a young man were skateboarding, snow skiing, snow-mobiling, dirt bikes and ATV’s. Known for having no fear, and wanting to jump from high places to make the most out of his adventures, he incurred his fair share of bumps along the way. Andy also loved the water and was happy near a creek or lake. Often being gone most of the day wandering through the woods, occasionally hunting or fishing, and always coming home dirty from head to toe. Later in life, Andy loved sketching his art and listening to his favorite punk rock bands and heavy metal artists like Gwar, Social Distortion and The Misfits. He enjoyed live music and could often be spotted downtown Charleston at The Music Farm. Other things that Andy enjoyed were vintage muscle cars and Harley motorcycles.
Andy was best known for his sparkling blue eyes and a winning smile. He comes from a large family and is the oldest of 21 close cousins, who still live here in the Low Country of Charleston SC and up/down the East Coast. He will forever be deeply missed by his Father, Sisters, Mothers, Son, and all those who loved him.
Andy Gibson is survived by his Father, Floyd Gibson and Stepmom, Elizabeth (Liz) Martinez-Gibson, of Charleston, SC; Mothers, Terry Blaton Holifield of Moncks Corner SC, and Sandy Benge Jamison of Kentucky; his Sisters, Laine Kuck (brother in-law Luna) of Summerville, SC and Melissa Finch (brother in-law Matt) of Cross, SC; Son Nathan Gibson and former wife, Melissa Rentz of Charleston, SC; his nieces and nephews, Wilder and Ryot Kuck, and Evelyn, Atticus, Orren and Idryss Finch, who hope his soul finds eternal peace and lives on in their hearts.
