Mr. Allen Michael Gay, 85, of Charleston, South Carolina passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012, after an extended illness. Mr. Gay was born November 20, 1926, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was a son of Clarence Ford Gay, Sr., and Marion Gay Egal. Mr. Gay grew up in Charleston. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as General Foreman of the Nuclear Reactor Plant after 38 years. He was a Veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army in Manila. Mr. Gay was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth Burk Gay, and four daughters: Robyn G. Getsinger (Ted), Patti G. Sosnowski (John), Barbara G. Keller (Dan), Ronni G. Livingston (David), eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, all of Charleston, and a brother, Leonard P. Gay, of Pensacola, Florida, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers: Clarence, Don and Bob Gay, and a sister, Ann G. Lauder. The family will receive friends this Friday evening, October 26, 2012 between 5 and 7 p.m., at James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. A private burial service will be held at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Charleston.
