Alden (Aldy) LaCross, age 85, of James Island, South Carolina, died Thursday morning, July 12, 2018, surrounded by his family at his beloved home. Born July 22, 1932, in Springfield Massachusetts, he was a loving father and grandfather.
Aldy was a Korean War Veteran who served as a flight mechanic in the United States Air Force in service to his country. He then opened his own service station and automotive repair shop in Springfield where he was well known in the community for his mechanical expertise and generosity. Later, he then took a position with Northeastern Utilities working many years there as a master mechanic specializing in hydraulic lift vehicles before retiring to the Charleston Area.
Aldy is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carolyn LaCross of James Island, South Carolina; brother, Roger LaCross of Chickopee, Massachusetts; two children, Nancy Jean LaCross Robinson, married to John Robinson of James Island, South Carolina and Thomas LaCross married to Mary Mastalerz LaCross of Hampden, Massachusetts.
Aldy was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan LaCross of Hampden, Massachusetts. He and his wife Carolyn are proud grandparents to 4 children: Alyson & Kelly Robinson of James Island, South Carolina, along with Emma and Erin LaCross of Hampden, Massachusetts.
Funeral services for Alden LaCross will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 16, 2018, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway. The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow immediately thereafter in Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, James Island. Friends may visit with the family after services at The Retreat at Riverlandwoods Club House, 1025 Riverlandwoods Place from 12:00 to 3:00 PM.
