Agnes Cox Deantonio

February 25, 1921 — March 11, 2018

Entered into eternal rest on March 11, 2018, Agnes Cox Danehey DeAntonio, age 97. She was born February 25 1921, the daughter of Alice Williams Cox and Henry K. Cox. She was retired from MUSC, a lifetime member of the Charleston Rifle Club Ladies Auxillary and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She was first married to her high school sweetheart, Mark Abney Danehey until his death in 1978. She later married Charles C. DeAntonio and they had eleven wonderful years together. She is survived by her son, Mark Danehey (Madelene), her daughter, Alice Danehey Gatch (Jimmy) both of Charleston, two special granddaughters, Lorree Riley and Donna Gatch, and great granddaughter, Lydia Riley. Also surviving is her sister, Mary Arndt of James Island. She was predeceased by her sister, Thelma Cox Benson and brothers, Ernest, Junie, Lamar, Melvin and John Cox.

Mom was active all her life. She was a great bowler for many years and loved to dance, especially shagging. In her later years, she surprised us all by developing a love for NASCAR and would be glued to the TV on race day. She was independent and lived life on her terms until the end.

We are so grateful for her wonderful caretakers these past six months who made it possible for her to stay at home. A special thank you to her friends and next door neighbors, Bob and Jeannette Heiterer, who were always watching out for her and helping in every way they could. We are forever thankful for their years of friendship to her.

We are honoring her wishes that there be no services. She was very clear about this. We will miss her but feel blessed to have had her for so many years. If you wish to remember her with a donation, two of her favorite charities are St Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Rd, North Charleston, SC 29406.
