Adele Ruffner Fischer

Adele Ruffner Fischer went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 10, 2013. Mrs. Fischer was born in Bisbee, AZ, on October 5, 1916. She was the child of Eugene Grissom Ruffner and Violet Dameron Ruffner. Mrs. Fischer's was very proud of her forbearers who were some of the first settlers of the Denver, Colorado area. Mrs. Fischer was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Cappel Fischer, Jr., her son, The Rev. Louis Cappel Fischer, III, a granddaughter, Martha Carter Fischer, and her brother, Edward Harry Ruffner. She is survived by her children, Eugene Ruffner Fischer (Frances), Sara Christian Fischer Williams (Daniel), and by her daughter-in-law, Charlotte Alexander Fischer. She also leaves five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three nephews. Mrs. Fischer was a long-time resident of James Island and loved the Stono River and its great oaks. She spent her adult years actively involved with the Episcopal Churchwomen in a local, Diocesan and national level. She was a contributor to the spiritual growth of many women of Grace Church and St. James Church, Charleston. Additionally, she impacted many lives with her work in the Faith Alive movement and home Bible studies and prayer groups. Her family thanks the loving caregivers of Summit Place, the PRIDE Unit of the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina, and the staff of Odyssey Hospice. A funeral for Mrs. Fischer will be held at St. James Church, 1872 Camp Rd., James Island, on April 24, 2013, at 1:00 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to the John and Lois Fischer Wieters Memorial Scholarship of the College of Charleston Foundation, Wilson-Sottile House, 66 George St., Charleston, SC 29424, or to the Odyssey Hospice Foundation, 5965 Core Rd., Ste 603, N. Charleston, SC 29406.
