REV. MSGR JOHN A. SIMONIN
Entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 15, 2010, the Reverend Monsignor John A. Simonin, of Mt. Pleasant, a Roman Catholic Priest of the Diocese of Charleston and retired Pastor of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church
He was born in Charleston, a son of Leo L. Simonin, Sr. and Mary Cecilia Danehey Simonin on Monday, June 5, 1922, was a graduate of Bishop England High School and St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, MD. John A. Simonin was ordained May 25, 1947. Among his many assignments were Director of Camp St. Mary's, St. Peter's in Beaufort, St. Anthony's in Ridgeland, Holy Spirit on John's Island, St. Patricks, St. Joseph's, Church of the Nativity and St. Mary of the Annunciation.
Msgr. Simonin is survived by a brother, Leo L. Simonin, Jr. and his wife, Inez, two sisters, Rosemary F. Simonin and Dolores S. Puckhaber; 12 Nieces and Nephews, Numerous Great Nieces and Nephews and many Great Great Nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles J. Simonin.
The relatives and friends of Rev. Msgr. John A Simonin are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Monday, July 19, 2010, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The Rite of Committal will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. A Vigil Service will be held at the Cathedral, 120 Broad St. Sunday evening at 7:00 PM and the family will receive friends following the Vigil. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Seminarian Fund, c/o The Diocese of Charleston, 119 Broad St., Charleston, SC 29401.
